Whose Got Style Like Badu?

Recently we had the BET Soul Train Awards on November 5th which will be aired on November 26th. We got to see some of our favorite artists dress up and look fabulous on the red carpet. However, one star stood out to me the most. If you didn’t know, Ms. Erykah Badu was the host for the Soul Train Awards this year. When I saw her hit the carpet and get in front of those cameras I said “OH MY GOSH! This woman is so LIT!” Can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful and eccentric this talented lady is? I will wait…

Ms. Badu has always been unapologetic when it comes to her fashion choices. We can say the same thing about her hair, makeup, and of course her music. She has created a signature look for herself with her head wraps and her tall Erykah Badu hat. Some of us may have expected this style from her, which she also fashioned at the 2016 Soul Train Awards. She is in a lane of her own.

Recently she reposted some ladies on her Instagram who tried to recreate her style for Halloween. And why wouldn’t they? She is Iconic! We saw some ladies who were inspired by the earlier Badu who always wore those beautiful turbans. Then we also saw some ladies who were inspired by the more recent Erykah Badu clothing style.

When we think of Erykah Badu we think of that big natural hair. We also see that same style with newer singers like SZA who is also an unapologetic black girl. But as we pay closer attention to her style, we can see that she also gets very creative with her makeup. She does this smudged eyeshadow look that is very intriguing. I’m not too sure where she picked up this trend of hers from but she has definitely owned it. Let’s not forget to mention that she has been rocking faux freckles way before beauty gurus even picked up on that trend.

It sure isn't your Kim Kardashian makeup, but we appreciate it! After observing the many different looks of Ms. Badu, I was also inspired to recreate my favorite Erykah Badu look.

This weekend, i will post a video tutorial on my youtube makeup channel. In this video I covered everything from foundation to hair. I have actively searched and have yet to find any images of a blemished Badu face. I will show you techniques and cosmetic products that I used to achieve a flawless foundation application. I myself don’t have perfect skin so if you are like me, you are in luck. I will also include the different accessories that I used like the hat, the head wrap, and the hair… Yes I said hair.
